September’s Cultural Agenda
Not to be missed exhibitions and shows in Athens this September
Returning to Athens after the holidays is never easy but there is a lot going on to help you maintain your energy in September.
«Sutra» at the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Centre
«Sutra», the famous piece by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, after touring 83 cities and 33 countries, returns to Greece and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre (SNFCC) on the 3rd and 4th of September .
The show is where the Chinese martial art of Kung Fu and modern European dance meet. It came about when the famous Belgian choreographer visited a Shaolin monastery in China in 2007. This is an impressive spectacle, focusing on the Shaolin philosophy and faith and how it relates to Kung Fu.
The impressive sets are designed by Anthony Gormley, whose works currently form the “Sight” exhibition on the island of Delos. 21 wooden boxes take over the stage, changing shapes and positions. The specially commissioned score by Polish composer Szymon Brzóska is performed live.
